Welcome to the digital experience of the Nbisiing Guides exhibit

A digital component of the exhibit comprises of an HGIS module developed in ESRI Story Maps. The module contains a series of interactive maps that highlight the active presence and vital contribution of guides in four expeditions between 1912-1941. In each map story, the audience navigates through the expedition route by following geotagged field notes and photographs set to the backdrop of satellite imagery. Materials used in this module are sourced from W.E. Cylde Todd's 1963 book, "Birds of the Labrador Peninsula and Adjacent Areas", as well as from our partners at the Carnegie Museum archives. The audience also has the opportunity to view data of bird specimens collected during the expeditions, mapped to the context of the expedition routes and field notes.
